"that was the first of two dreams i've had about Bridget" I told mum, "I'm up to dream number two now, i dont know what they mean though?".
I could tell that mum thought that these dreams didn't mean anything besides that i'm a grieving single father.
She sat for a minute playing with Emily, Chloe's daughter...Chloe had fallen pregnant to a short term boyfriend last year, he's gone out of both their lives now, and when Oliver found out he, well lets just say, I've never seen him so mad, he went on this vendetta to go find the man that got his daughter pregnant, but didn't succeed, he was however gone for something like six months and Carmella, Chloe and their other two kids Charlotte and Grace wouldn't talk to him for months, but when Emily was born the family came together again.
"Well lets start at the top then shall we? just let me go put Emily down for a nap, i'll be back soon" Mum got up and took Emily out to India's bedroom where i'd set up a little cot for her.
I sat for a minute collecting my thoughts, trying to remember the details of the second dream i'd had about my dead wife, i went over to my photo wall and had a look at it. This photo wall was in the lounge room and it mostly had pictures of India growing up, but it also had pictures of me and India, mum and India and Chloe and India together, and lastly, Bridget.
"I think you're sending me messages, can you tell me why?" I asked the picture of my wife, "I don't know what to do, and i don't know what you want".
"Well she's down asleep now" Mum came in and sat down not noticing me having a conversation with a picture.
I went over and sat down again, "I miss Didge so much now".
Mum nodded, "I know that, you've never gotten over her have you?".
I shook my head sadly, "Anyway i'd better get on with this dream".
Mum nodded and gestured for me to continue.
"Well i was sitting in the car with Bridget and India...and our new daughter Ally, i was driving through Sydney and Bridget and I were arguing" i started.
"I told you the bridge is that way!" Bridget snapped.
"No it isnt! Tom Tom says it's this way" I pointed left.
"Oh towards the inland Dec!, and anyway you're going to trust a GPS more then you trust me?" She asked, "Even if i lived in Sydney for years?".
"Alright alright, but if we get lost...it's YOUR fault" i turned right.
"Oh yeah as apposed to you getting us lost six times already?" Bridget snapped back, "See!" she pointed at the bridge that was right in front of us.
"Shut...up" I sighed heavily.
"I dont know why you wouldnt let me drive!" She said.
"Because!" I snapped as we started to go along the bridge.
"See girls, this is Sydney Harbour" Bridget turned around and smiled at both of our daughters.
"What's Sydney Hubba Bubba?" India asked innocently.
Bridget and i both snorted, "Not Sydney Hubba Bubba" I grinned from the side mirror at her, "Anyway we should stop and get some Hubba Bubba!".
"Yeahhh!" India cried out happily.
"no it'll rot your teeth" Bridget said.
"Okay Mum" I said sarcastically.
"Hey i am a mum, i'm the mum to the daughter who's teeth you're thinking of rotting!" Bridget turned around again as we kept driving.
"mummy, daddy" India said a few hours later, "Ally isn't making the breathing noises anymore".
"What!" Bridget turned around to check on Ally, "Declan she's cold and she isnt breathing!".
I slammed on the breaks and pulled over into the emergency lane, "How long hasnt she been making these noises for?" I asked India.
"I dont know, since we left the toilet?" India tried to remember.
"Bridget that was over fifteen minutes ago!" I cried as Bridget pulled the restraints off our daughter.
"Call an ambulance!" Bridget shouted at me.
I pulled out my phone and rang triple zero, "Hello i'm on the highway just out of Sydney, my daughter isnt breathing!" i told them when they answered.
"How old is your daughter, have you started CPR yet?" they asked me.
"Bridget start doing CPR on her" I told Bridget, "She's just turned one" i told the receptionist.
"We'll send an ambulance straight away" They said.
We anxiously did compressions on her and breathed into her tiny mouth but she remained limp and cold.
The ambulance workers were here within five minutes and they began working on her in the van.
"She's gone" Bridget cried to me as i hugged her, "Declan our little girl is dead!".
"She's not dead!" I cried out.
One of the ambulance workers stepped out of the van and walked over to her, "I'm sorry we did all we could!".
I broke down in tears as well and we stood there for ages just crying.
Mum looked at me concerned, "I don't know what to say to that, other then you only have one daughter, you've never lost any children".
I shrugged my shoulders, "All these dreams have seemed so real though".
"I know sweetheart but Bridget really is gone" Mum hugged me.
We heard a knock at the door and mum went to get it saying that "That must be Chloe".
I sat for a moment looking at that picture of Bridget before silently asking for a new dream tonight. *I know that's sad but it had to be done, you'll understand when the rest of the story unfolds*.

I laid in bed for hours that night willing sleep to come, not wanting to miss another ‘Bridget Dream’ but sleep never overtook my restless mind.
I decided to get up and walk around the house to try to entice sleep, as I slowly slouched down the stairs I looked over at India’s room and noticed her light was still on.
I checked my watch and realised it was well over 1:30am so I decided to go see what she was doing. I knocked on the door softly before entering, India was lying on her bed staring into space, tears were running down her face.
“Are you okay?” I asked her.
She screwed up her face and shook her head, “no”.
I walked over and put my arms around her, “what’s up Indy?”.
She sat for a minute before saying “mum”.
“What about your mum?” I asked her.
“I dreamt about her, but it was so real, she was talking to me” India spluttered out through her tears.
“What did she say?” I asked her.
“It was back when I was nine years old, she was pregnant and she was on the phone to someone” India said, “She said…”
“India caused Anna to die” Bridget said.
“I know she was only three but she still had the ability to tell us, quite obviously when she told us that Anna wasn’t breathing fifteen minutes after she did!”.
“She didn’t tell us, that’s why I cant be around her at the moment!” Bridget snapped.
“I’m never going to be able to look at her the same, I’m just going to have to put more focus in the baby I’m having!”.
“No Declan I’m going, you’d better come home soon to look after your daughter!” Bridget hung up the phone then walked to the doorway before she spotted India.
“I’m going India, for a while, til I can sort some stuff out, your daddy is going to be here though” Bridget said through tears and walked off on India who stood there in shock.
Declan came home about five minutes later and met Bridget upstairs.
“Please don’t go” He begged.
“I cant stay here right now Dec, please no hard feelings, you can come visit after the baby’s born, but please don’t bring India anywhere near my baby” Bridget hugged him.
“India is your daughter too” Declan yelled, “It wasn’t her fault that Anna died!”.
“Yes it is, she didn’t tell us” Bridget started walking towards the door again.
“She was three years old, she was barely potty trained Bridget!” Declan yelled again.
“I’m leaving” Bridget stormed out of the house with her bags.
Declan stood for a minute and looked at India, innocent and nine years old looking scared at her mothers rash behaviour.
“You got the dream, not me” I said to India who was crying.
“What?” India asked.
“I’ve been having dreams, this was the third in the series” I told her.
“What?” India asked again, “What were the dreams?”.
I explained the two dreams that he had already had to his daughter and she nodded, “So is that why you’re awake? Because you had a dream?”.
“No I didn’t have a dream so I was trying to get tired enough to sleep” I said, “your mum is trying to contact us but I’m not sure why yet?”.
India nodded, “I didn’t really kill anyone did I?”.
“No Indy their just dreams okay?” I kissed her head, “We’d better get some sleep, your grandma wants to go Christmas shopping with you tomorrow remember?”.
India nodded, “Can I have some money dad?”.
I smiled at her antics “we’ll see India”.

I didn’t sleep though, and at 6am I got up, my eyes red raw, yawning I stumbled down the stairs and almost into India who was rushing past.
“What are you doing up?” I asked her as she rushed into the bathroom to put her makeup on.
“Grandma’s coming to get me soon” She said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“It’s 6am” I said checking my watch again.
“Yeah we’re going to the sales at Victoria Market dad, you have to get in early or you wont get anything good!” India said rubbing foundation all over her face.
“I wish you wouldn’t put that stuff on your face, you’re gorgeous as you are!” I said sounding like a typical nagging dad.
“All dad’s have to say that, but seriously look at my eyes, I hate them, and my nose, who in all honestly has a nose like this!” She said prodding her face.
“Your mother” I said, “You have her eyes, it took me ages to look into your eyes properly after she died”.
India looked at me sadly, “I had nightmares about that dream, that’s why I’m up, and I rang grandma at 5:30 and asked her to come get me earlier”.
“Indy…” I started.
“Yes I know I didn’t kill her, I know dad, I just had nightmares about it, I’ve never heard mum talk before and for her to talk to me like that was scary” India explained while putting on her mascara.
“Just as long as you know it was just a dream” I said, “Anyway why is your hair curly? I thought you hated it like that”.
“Hair straightener started sparking last night” India said, “I need a new one anyway, I cant use Donna’s old one my whole life”.
I nodded noting that this would be a good Christmas present for her, I was planning on going shopping with Donna and Ringo today, they still needed to buy their kids stuff and I needed to do all my shopping.
“You look really tired dad” India brought me out of my thoughts, “Did you sleep?”.
I looked at her then shook my head, “No”.
“You should go back to bed then” She instructed.
“You sound like your mother” I smiled at her.
“Don’t give me that ‘you sound like your mother’ treatment dad, now go to bed” India said.
“Cant” I said walking off to the kitchen.
India followed, “why not?”.
“Because I need to go buy a certain princess her Christmas present” I told her.
“Oooh any clues?” she asked me.
“None whatsoever my dear girl, unless you want to fill me in on what your planning to get your dear old dad?” I said as I made coffee, “Do you want a cuppa?”.
“No thanks, I’ll fill you in, it’s black and its burnt wood” she said jokingly.
“Oh damn we’re getting each other the same thing!” I said sarcastically as I sipped my cup of coffee.
“I wont tell if you wont” India said.
“My lips are seeled” I said making the zipping motion.
“Hey coffee, I could do with one of those!” Mum came into the kitchen, “Are you ready to go Indy?”.
India nodded, “yeah I’ll just go get my stuff”, she ran out into her bedroom.
“By stuff she means her Ipod which she’ll have rammed in her ears all the way to the markets, and her phone which she’ll constantly be on” I warned my mum.
“You look terrible” mum said ignoring my comments about my daughter, “did you sleep?”.
‘scratch what I said about India sounding like her mum, she sounds like her grandma’ I thought but said “no”.
“Why?” Mum asked.
“India had a dream like the ones I’m having about Didge, I think Didge is trying to tell us something.. I just don’t know what?” I trailed off.
“Well whatever it is, don’t let it consume your life, I think that you should go sleep now though Declan, Coffee isn’t going to do you any good in the long run” She told me.
“No I’m going shopping with Donna and Ringo soon anyway” I said.
That’s no excuse bed now!” mum tried to order me which made India giggle from behind her.
“It’s really funny when you see your dad being ordered around by his mum” India explained to our confused looks.
I laughed but mum shot me a death glare, “fine I’ll go I’ll go, India there’s $150 on the counter for you”.
