Brilliant Suse! Especially loved how you wrote in the kissing booth scene, and had it be James' idea. Super stuff as always ;D

He sat outside in his car for ages, trying to summon the courage to go inside. The last words he said to her echoed in his ears and he couldn’t leave things as they were. He couldn’t deny his feelings any longer. He had to tell her. He had to tell her he loved her…tonight….
11 months earlier.
Part 1
James and Caitlin snuggled up on the lounge watching TV in his apartment. It had been a few weekends since she had been to his place and he enjoyed having her there.
He had lost interest in the movie and he began softly kissing her neck and letting his hands wander.
“James,” she groaned, “Don’t! I have to leave shortly.”
“Exactly,” he complained, “and that’s precisely why we shouldn’t be watching movies.”
“No,” she insisted again, “you know how tired I get on the long drive.”
“What,” he questioned pulling a face, “does having sex reduce your driving ability?”
She gave him an evil look and returned to watching the movie.
James sat there feeling rejected and deflated, but his sulky mood was interrupted by his phone.
He got up and retrieved it from the bench. It was a message from Eloise.
‘Guess what I’ve done’ it read.
James grinned and sent back ‘got up before 10’, and anxiously waited for a reply. He knew the first thing she would say.
“Who is it from?” Caitlin called from the lounge after seeing the smile on his face.
“Eloise,” he answered back non-chalantly.
“Oh,” she replied shortly.
She knew that James was professional, but the girlfriend in her couldn’t help but feel a bit put out that he had to kiss another girl on a regular basis. It wasn’t just that either. She could tell by the way he spoke about her how close they had become as friends. When he first started on the show he talked about her regularly because he couldn’t stand her, but things had changed. Now she was a part of his everyday life and she didn’t like it one bit.
His phone went off again and he wasn’t disappointed with her response.
‘Smart arse! I’m not telling now.”
James laughed quietly and immediately sent a text back.
‘What makes u think I want to no?’
“You are missing the movie,” Caitlin said now becoming aggravated with his lack of attention.
“I’ve already seen it anyway,” he said, intentionally ignoring her annoyed tone.
Much to Caitlin’s irritation the phone went off again and James was puzzled by her message.
‘Fine! It will just be you fetching my crutches for the next 8 weeks.’
“What the hell?” he muttered.
That was it…he had to call her. He dialled her number.
“Yes I thought that might get your attention,” she said dryly as soon as she answered.
“What on earth are you on about?” he asked concerned.
“So now you are interested,” she teased.
“Look smart arse just tell me for fuck sake,” he laughed.
“I broke my ankle,” she said deadpan.
“You did not,” he drawled.
“I did too. And if I was going to make something up it would be more interesting than that…and less painful,” she sighed.
“How did you do it?’ he asked concern in his voice now.
“Well you know the party we were having last night that you weren’t allowed to attend…well it was some party…that’s all I’m admitting to at this stage.”
James was all set to come to the party, and was going to bring Caitlin with him, but when she arrived she wasn’t keen and decided she wanted James all to herself. He pretended to Caitlin that it didn’t bother him, but he was seriously annoyed that he wasn’t going to be there.
“I’m coming over,” he said suddenly.
“Oh…has Caitlin gone already?” she asked surprised.
“No, but she is heading off soon, so I’ll come over then OK,” he insisted. Caitlin heard every word and didn’t particularly want him going over to her place…that’s why she didn’t want to go last night, but she certainly didn’t want him going over there alone now. Surely he saw her enough during the week.
“Yeah I would like that,” Eloise smiled, “I need someone to whinge to.”
“Isn’t Joe there?” he asked surprised.
“Um....no! Long story…I’ll tell you after.”
James turned to Caitlin after they had hung up.
“What has happened? Is she all right?” Caitlin asked feigning concern.
“Yeah! She has broken her ankle. I’ll go over and check up on her later,” he said.
“Lets go now…I’ll come with you,” she said springing off the lounge and fetching her handbag.
“I thought you wanted to leave soon,” he asked suspiciously.
“No its fine…come on,” she herded him out the door, having no intention of telling him her real motives for her concern.
They were there in a few minutes and were greeted at the door by Millie.
“Oh thank God! I am sick to death of her whinging…,”she began when she opened the door but stopped when she saw the skinny blonde behind him.
“Oh…hello,” she said awkwardly, “you must be Caitlin.”
Introductions were made and James headed inside to find Eloise on the lounge with her booted leg stuck in the air.
“So you weren’t lying,” he smirked.
“No...and if you laugh I’ll fu…,” she too stopped when she saw Caitlin walk in behind him.
“Oh…hi Caitlin,” she said brightly, genuinely surprised to see her.
They all sat down on the lounge as Eloise began the sordid tale of how she came to grief, and not long after there was another knock at the door.
Millie jumped up to answer it and was soon ushering Joe into the room with a look of trepidation on her face. When Joe saw her he stopped in his tracks. Not only was he surprised to see the giant boot on her leg, but also James and his girlfriend sitting with her.
“What on earth,” he began as he stood there and shook his head, “I told you...”
“I don’t want to hear it Joe,’ she interrupted raising her hand.
“Well you are going to,” he yelled at her, “I told you to settle down…but no you had to keep being stupid. You know for a smart woman you really don’t have any self control do you?”
James and Caitlin sat there not knowing where to look.
“I don’t need you to tell me that Joe,” she hissed, “I feel silly enough. And you know what… it’s my house and it was my party and I will drink and be stupid and break as many ankles as I want. I am sick of you always being the fun police.”
“Oh really,” he scoffed, “well it seems like you are having a wow of a time now…so I’ll leave you to it.”
They stared at each other angrily before he turned and walked out the door.
“I need a cigarette,” she sighed as she grabbed her crutches and headed outside, leaving James, Caitlin and Millie speechless on the lounge.
“What’s going on with those 2,” James asked Millie concerned.
“Well they had a fight last night at the party. Joe is very straight laced. Any time Eloise even remotely looks like letting her hair down and having fun he gets touchy about it. Last night she told him she was sick of it and he left…needless to say she got a bit out of control and….here we are.”
“I see,” James sighed.
“Maybe you should go and talk to her James if that’s OK.” Millie suggested, “she is putting on a brave face but I think she is really down in the dumps.”
“Yeah I will,” he agreed, “will you be all right here for a bit Caitlin. I won’t be long.”
She wasn’t impressed, but she could hardly protest.
He found her puffing away on a cigarette, under the carport, leaning on his bike.
“I’m really sorry about that,” she began when she saw him approaching, “I didn’t mean to make you both uncomfortable.”
“It’s fine,” he said concern in his tone, “but I’m worried about you. Why didn’t you call me? I could have come to the hospital with you.”
She smiled at him appreciatively.
“I didn’t want to disturb your weekend with Caitlin. She didn’t want to come to the party in the first place…she is hardly going to want you coming to sit at a hospital for hours.”
“Too bad… I would have stayed with you…especially if Joe wasn’t there,” he said, not hiding his displeasure with him.
“It’s not Joe’s fault. I didn’t tell him. He warned me that I would end up hurting myself, and after telling him off in no uncertain terms…well I didn’t want him to know he was right.”
“Why is he so uptight?” James asked, “surely he knows you like to have fun.”
“He’s just looking after me I guess,” Eloise sighed.
“Sounds more like he is stifling you,” James said annoyed.
Eloise didn’t respond and continued to puff on her cigarette as she became lost in thought. Finally she spoke quietly.
“He doesn’t intentionally stifle me. He just has such high expectations….he is so…good…and I often find myself behaving in a way that he expects me too. Sometimes I feel like I can’t be myself around him…I can’t really relax because I feel like he will have a lower opinion of me if I don’t meet his approval.”
James listened intently and could easily empathise with her.
“That’s really interesting hearing that from you. I feel like that with Caitlin sometimes too. I always feel like I am pretending to be this perfect guy she expects me to be. I just put it down to the fact that we don’t see each other all the time. It’s easier to just keep the peace than to make an issue of things.”
“I have often sensed that,” Eloise commented gently, “from various things you have told me.”
He smiled uneasily at her. He was surprised that he had opened up so easily with her, but now it was making him feel uncomfortable. He decided he needed to lighten the mood.
“Anyway…enough of these deep and meaningfuls,” he said in an upbeat tone, “I guess I’ll be at your beck and call for the next 8 weeks. Are you in much pain?”
“No…but I am doped up to the eyeballs right now,” she laughed right before she heard the front door open and Caitlin calling for him.
“Oh shit the bike,” Eloise whispered to James, all of a sudden panicked.
“Oh great! Don’t worry she probably won’t ask,” James whispered back nervously.
“Of course she will ask…she’s a woman for God sake,” she hissed.
“I’m telling you…she won’t be interested,’ James hissed back.
They both watched anxiously as Caitlin spotted them and headed down the driveway, with Millie close behind.
“James are you ready to go…oh…whose bike?” she asked as soon as se laid eyes on it.
Eloise looked triumphantly over at James as he subtly rolled his eyes at her. She would have happily gloated if she didn’t have to keep quiet and use her brain power to come up with a story in quick time.
“Just a friend’s,” Eloise volunteered quickly, but to her horror Millie blurted out “my brothers” at the exact same time.
Eloise looked over at Millie and pulled a ‘shut your mouth’ face…a moment Caitlin didn’t miss.
“What we mean is that he’s my friend…but her brother,” Eloise explained with a nervous laugh.
Caitlin also didn’t fail to miss James silence and he had guilt written all over his face.
“It’s your isn’t it,” she accused icily, staring him straight in the eye, “or is it a coincidence that it looks like the exact bike you showed me a picture of a while back.”
James stared back in silence desperately trying to figure out what to do. Did he admit it and prepare to face her wrath, or deny everything and be constantly under suspicion.
“Caitlin there is nothing for you to be concerned about,” Eloise said, trying to be diplomatic but without telling any further falsehoods.
James couldn’t stand it any longer, and he certainly didn’t want Eloise to have to lie for him.
“Its ok El…yes it’s mine…I bought it a few months ago,” he said quietly. Eloise could see the look of shame on his face and began to feel annoyed. He loved his bike, and he shouldn’t have to feel like a criminal for owning one.
Caitlin’s face fell as Millie slinked back inside.
“Caitlin,” Eloise began, “ I know that bikes get a bad rap, but James is really careful, and I know that once you go for a ride with him you will love it…just give it a chance.”
Caitlin’s face fell even further.
“What! So not only do you stash it away for him to hide it from me, but you go on rides with him too,” she said in disbelief.
Dammit, Eloise chastised herself, I should have kept my mouth shut.
“Look don’t blame her,” James finally spoke up, “I asked her to….”
“I don’t want to know,” she said angrily, “take me back to your place…now!”
And with that she stormed off down the driveway to his car and slammed the door shut.
“I’m so sorry,” Eloise whispered desperately, “this is all my fault.”
“No it’s not. You were right. She would’ve find out eventually,” he sighed massaging his temples, not looking forward to what was waiting for him in the car.
Just then a beep came from Eloise’s pocket. She retrieved her mobile phone from her pocket. It was a message from Joe.
“Well it looks like we are both going to have a fun evening,” Eloise said, “Joe wants to talk.”
They couldn’t help but smile at their unfortunate predicament.
“We really do find ourselves in strife in one way or another on a regular basis don’t we,” he commented.
She nodded in agreement before they were rudely interrupted by James’ car horn.
“You had better go and face the consequences,” Eloise said, “we’ll compare stories tomorrow. And take notes…I want all the gory details.”
“Deal,” he laughed as he turned and walked away from her towards Caitlin, and they both prepared to do some major sucking up.

I laughed at so many bits of this. You're so good at writing dialogue, it flows very naturally which is so hard to do, and the comic timing is so so good.
God I used the word so a lot in that last sentence.
I <3 this fic anyway.

Another Brilliant chapter Suse! That Caitlin is a nasty piece of work, but then so is that Joe by the sounds of him. They could have anyone in a heart beat including each other so why they insist on staying with each other is beyond me. Look at me rabbiting on as if it is real! Anyway to summarise brilliant chapter, thoroughly enjoyed it!

DISCLAIMER - This story is fictional and in no way reflects the actions or day to day activites of the characters involved. In other words..ITS MADE UP!
Part 2
James POV
The drive back to James apartment was agonisingly silent, and he was never so glad that Eloise lived so close.
Caitlin stormed inside and madly gathered her things. That’s how she operated. Using the silent treatment, making James beg her to tell him what the problem was.
This time it wasn’t going to work.
Firstly because he knew full well what the problem was, secondly he knew he was in the wrong, and lastly, for the first time since they had started dating, he wasn’t as concerned as he should’ve been.
She huffed out the door and threw her things in her car, but he never heard the engine turn over. He sat on the lounge and soon saw her face appear tentatively at the door.
“So you can’t even be bothered to sort this out…to apologise…to explain yourself?” she said bitterly.
Eloise’s POV
Eloise’s stomach was in knots when she heard Joe knock at the door. Millie let him in and let herself out. Even though the sticky beak in her wanted to hear every word, the friend in her knew she had to give them space to talk.
Eloise didn’t have much choice but to stay on the lounge when he appeared. She smiled at him apprehensively, but it was soon wiped from her face when he didn’t return her smile.
He stood there sternly with his arms folded. Eloise sat there, in silence, until she couldn’t stand it any longer.
“Listen Joe…I really don’t know what to say. I guess you were right…again! I’m sorry I was so argumentative last night…"
“Argumentative,” he repeated incredulously, “you were downright rude.”
“Well I’m sorry but being told that I am behaving like a drunken lout didn’t quite appeal to me."
James POV
“To be honest with you Caitlin…what can I say? I lied, you caught me out, somehow I don’t think I’m sorry is going to cut it right now…do you?”
“But you could at least try. At least explain why you lied?” she said, hurt.
“Oh come on. Why do you think? You made it perfectly clear that you didn’t want me to have a bike. I have always wanted a bike. I always planned to have a bike, and I’m sorry Caitlin but not you…not anyone…can tell me what I can or can’t own.”
“So disobeying me and lying about it was the easy option,” she spat, “surely you could have told me then what you just did now.”
“What,” he said stunned, “I disobeyed you…listen to yourself. You’re not my mother. And if I did tell you it would have just caused an argument.”
“I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to sound like that,” realizing how she must have come across, “but I really can’t stand the entire biker culture and I don’t particularly want my boyfriend being one.”
He laughed bitterly.
“So it’s the image thing you don’t like. Eloise tried to convince me it was because you were worried about my safety…I should have known better.”
Eloise’s POV
“Now you’re putting words in my mouth. I didn’t say that at all. I just pointed out that you needed to stop drinking for a while and settle down,” Joe said calmly.
“Margot, Caitlin and I were singing karaoke and dancing...badly…yes…but it was all innocent fun. I wasn’t doing anything differently to anyone else there…except you of course.”
“You were well on the way to inebriation,” he said.
“So,” she said beginning to raise her voice in frustration, “I was in my own house…with my own friends. I don’t need you to be my minder.”
“But Eloise….I don’t think I need to remind you what state you are in….or where you ended up after I left.”
She felt like punching him in the face.
“No you don’t need to remind me,” she said through gritted teeth, “You know I was saying to James earlier how I am always scared of disappointing you. I guess I finally let my guard down enough to achieve it.
He looked at her shocked and angry.
“You told James….about us!”
James POV
Caitlin glared at James.
“You tell her about us?”
James felt uneasy and wished he had never bought her up...but it was too late now.”
“I just told her that you didn’t want me having a bike…that’s all. She has become a good friend,” he said.
“Yeah I’ve noticed. She must be a very good friend if she will go to those lengths to help you keep things from me,” she said icily.
“Don’t blame her…or aren’t I allowed to have friends either,’ he said bitterly.
“That was uncalled for James,” she snapped, ‘but it wasn’t that long ago that you couldn’t stand the sight of her. Now all of a sudden she’s your best friend…or is that the real problems here…are you more than just friends?”
Eloise’s POV
Eloise suddenly regretted bringing James name up…but it was too late now.
“Aren’t I allowed to talk to a friend about my problems?” she snapped.
“Well…yes...but why him?” he asked confused.
“Why not him? He has become a good friend to me, and I can talk to him,’ she explained.
“What? You couldn’t stand him a few months ago...now you are telling him your deep dark secrets” he said incredulously.
Eloise was beginning to resent what he was saying.
“Do you know how ridiculous you sound?” she snapped.
James POV
“Do you know how ridiculous you sound,” James snapped at her.
“It sounds to me like you are avoiding the question,” she claimed.
“That’s because it’s a ridiculous question that doesn’t even warrant a response,” he spat, “I think its best you leave now. This is getting nowhere. And I won’t be coming next weekend. I’ve got things to do.”
Caitlin’s face dropped again.
“What does that mean? Are you breaking up with me?” she asked lip quivering.
Oh God don’t cry he thought to himself.
“No of course not! I just think we need a couple of weekends to ourselves…that’s all.”
Eloise’s POV
“Well I’m sorry but you do spend a lot of time with him, and a lot of time talking about him now I think about it. Do you blame me for being suspicious?” he asked her.
“Suspicious about what?” she said incredulously.
“Your real feelings for James…how close you are becoming to him,” he said in a raised voice.
“So not only are you ashamed of how I behave but you think I am cheating on you too…charming,” she said, visibly upset.
“I don’t think you are cheating…I …” he stammered.
“I’ve had enough,” Eloise said sternly, “I think you should leave…and I think we need a few days apart.”
Joe looked at her hurt and confused.
“What are you saying? Don’t you want to see me anymore?” he asked her, upset.
“I am not saying that at all. You really hurt my feelings Joe, and I just feel like I need some time to myself.
James POV
The tears started flowing then and as usual James was racked with guilt.
“Come here,” he held his arms out and she ran into them, “I’m sorry for upsetting you…and I’m sorry for lying to you. You just have to understand that I need to live my own life too, without feeling like I need to hide things from you…OK,” he explained softly.
She pulled away and nodded as she wiped her tears away.
“I love you,” she said tearily.
He smiled gently at her, and hugged her again, but without returning those 3 words.
This time he felt he just couldn’t and she noticed too, but chose not to make an issue of it…for now.
“Come on…you had better get going. It’s getting late.”
Eloise’s POV
“Eloise I would never intentionally hurt you…you know that,” he said quietly.
“I know…but sometimes you just do without even trying,” she explained gently.
Joe was starting to get anxious now and he began to doubt her feelings for him.
He stared at her for what felt like forever.
“Don’t I make you happy at all?” he asked almost in a whisper.
She could see the sadness in his eyes and felt guilty. She held out her arms and he fell into them.
“Of course you make me happy,” she sighed as she hugged him, “but I am not perfect…far from it…and I feel like you expect me to be perfect all the time. I can’t do that. You have to allow me to be myself without me worrying that you will disapprove.”
He pulled away and stroked her face gently.
“I love everything about you Eloise, and I promise to try and relax a bit…ok a lot,” he smiled.
She smiled at him appreciatively.
“I love you so much,” he whispered.
She pulled him into another hug…but didn’t return those 3 words.
This time she felt she just couldn’t and he noticed too, but chose not to make an issue of it…for now.
James POV
Later in the evening James lay in bed reflecting on the days events. It had certainly been an eventful afternoon and even though he had made up with Caitlin he still felt things had changed.
He wondered how Eloise’s evening had gone with Joe. He was worried about her and even though it was quite late he decided to ring her.
She answered on the first ring.
“Wow you’re quick,” he said surprised.
‘And you’re a mind reader. I was just a bout to dial your number,” she laughed.
This made him smile.
“Really! I was kind of worried that you would be asleep. You have had a big weekend,” he commented.
“But I’m so exhausted I can’t sleep,” she moaned, “so I’m just lying in bed…mulling over the days events. How did you go with Caitlin? Are you all loved up again?”
“I guess,’ he sighed.
“You are bowling me over with your enthusiasm,” she said sarcastically.
“Well it wasn’t pretty for a while there. We even ended up fighting about you at one point.”
He wasn’t quite sure why he bought that up…subconsciously he was keen to see what her reaction would be.
She was silent for quite a while.
“I guess she didn’t appreciate me lying for you…its understandable I guess. Joe and I argued about you too,” she admitted cautiously.
“Really! Why? I guess he was annoyed I found out about your incident before he did,” he said genuinely surprised.
“Mmm…not really,” she said nervously.
“Well what then?” he asked uneasily
“It’s ridiculous really. He commented about how close we are becoming…and get this…he accused me of having feelings for you…can you believe that?” she added nervously.
He couldn’t help himself as a broad smile crossed his lips. He couldn’t help but wonder if she did have feelings for him.
“James are you there…have you run away now?” she asked when he didn’t say anything.
“Yeah I’m here. It’s just quite interesting…Caitlin accused me of the same thing,” he admitted tentatively.
“Oh!” Eloise answered quietly.
An awkward silence hung in the air, and Eloise felt uncomfortable with how this was going.
“I mean they are both ridiculous right? Just because we have learnt to be friends and not want to kill each other all the time doesn’t mean that there’s more to it…right?” Eloise raved.
“Of course,” James said trying to hide a hint of disappointment in his voice, “and that’s what I told Caitlin.
“Oh,” she replied feeling a bit deflated, “well I’m glad you set her straight.”
“Good,” he said quickly.
“Yeah…good,” she repeated a bit snootily.
James felt the conversation may disintegrate into one of their old arguments if they let it, but he didn’t want that.
“But,” he continued, “I really meant it. You have become a very good friend and I don’t care how put out Caitlin is about it…you have become very important to me and she’ll just have to accept that.”
She couldn’t stop the grin she felt spreading across her face. This guy who was the vain of her life 12 months ago was now one of the most important and special.
“It’s nice to hear you say that, because I wouldn’t stash a motorbike and lie for just anyone….just you. You know that don’t you?” she asked gently.
“Yeah I know!” he replied wistfully.
For a split second he longed to be with her. He wanted so badly to get in his car and go to her. Snuggle up in bed with her, and just hold her. He had had similar thoughts cross his mind before at inappropriate moments and he had taught himself to rid his mind of them quickly. But this time they weren’t going anywhere. He needed to get off the phone.
“You had better get some sleep. It’s passed your bedtime,” he chided, “I’ll see you Monday I guess.”
She didn’t want him to hang up. She wanted him to keep talking. In fact if she wasn’t incapacitated and almost a zombie she may have even raced to her car and driven over to his house…just to talk, she convinced herself.
“All right,” she sighed, “thanks for coming over to see me today. I really appreciated it, even if I did get you into trouble again.”
They hung up and snuggled down in their beds. They both tried to mull over the dramas with their partners, but their thoughts soon drifted to each other and how special their relationship had become.
