If I could hold you close
Like you were never gone
If I could hear your voice
You'd tell me to be strong
Declan Napier sat by his wife’s tombstone, he was struggling to take in the events of the past few weeks, he missed his wife so much, boy did he miss her. He wished with all his being that she would walk up behind him and he’d be able to hug her again, kiss her again and they could be the family that they’d set off to be in the first place. He wished he could hear her voice one last time, if only to tell him to go home look after their daughter, be strong for her, be the man he set out to be, the husband and father he wanted to become. She would tell him he’s too strong to let this defeat him, he could hear her voice telling him now that she wanted him to move on from her death and begin to enjoy life again.
But sometimes
I just can't
I just don't understand
Why you had to go
Why you had to go
I guess I'll never know
But he couldn’t, he would never get over this tragedy, the worst few weeks of his life, the weeks that tore his wife away from him, his daughters mother away from her. He knew how it happened, Karl had explained it, but that didn’t help him comprehend the question “Why you had to go”. He decided that this was something he’d never know, or at least never whilst he was alive, he dreamt of meeting her up in heaven one day, then India, Bridget and him could be the family they were always meant to be.
Ain't it funny how you think
You're gonna be OK
Till you remember things ain't never
Gonna be the same again
He felt someone come up behind him, his stomach leapt as he naively thought that his prayers had been answered and she had come back to him. He turned around and was disappointed to see his mother standing behind him holding his daughter. He turned back to the gravestone letting the tears flow long and hard again at realizing again that this was where his wife was buried and nothing would ever change that, not all the hopes and prayers in the world would.
The same again
Ain't it crazy how you think
You've got your whole life planned
Just to find that it was never ever
In your hand
In your hand
Change
He’d always pictured himself, Bridget, India and a couple more children in the future, he’d be a professional football player, she’d be a doctor, they’d juggle the kids between them, whilst holding their careers high. They’d be living somewhere tropical and nice, Queensland possibly, the kids would love it and go to the beach a lot while he and Bridget were working. He hates that his life plan was torn in half the day she went away, he hated that he still had trouble looking his own daughter in the eyes because she has Bridget’s.
If I could get to you
I feel it in the air
My world don't make no sense
If I'm without you in it
Life doesn’t not make any sense, that was the first thing he’d realized after being told he was now a widower, she was his rock, the person that was never too scared to stand up and tell him he was being an idiot, the smart one. Now he was alone, not sure how to act at all, he didn’t know how to be a father now that she was gone, he just wanted her back.
And sometimes
I just find
Can't deny
Don't know why
Why'd you have to go?
Why'd you have to go?
And leave me here alone
And leave me here alone
“I miss you so much” Declan said to the tombstone “Why’d you have to leave me here alone?”.
Ain't it funny how you think
You're gonna be OK
Till you remember things ain't never
Gonna be the same again
The same again
Ain't it crazy how you think
You've got your whole life planned
Just to find that it was never ever
In your hand
In your hand
Change
“I don’t know what to do with my life now Bridget” He told the tombstone, “You were always the smart one, the one that came up with all of our idea’s for the future, the one that I turned to when I wasn’t sure what to do”.
You don't see it coming
Change
When the future comes knocking
It changed
It can make you or break you too
You'd just have to make it through
(You'd just have to make it through)
He did not see her death coming, the doctor had said she was improving and she even spoke to him, they talked for a while, he kissed her then he left the room. He regrets leaving the room the most, he wished he had have been there, stopped her from going to sleep, stopped her from going into the light. If he’d known that this was the last time he spoke to his wife he would have said more. But India needed him now, just as much as he now needed her, now that Bridget was gone, Indy was the only thing left of Bridget on this earth, he promised then never to let anything bad happen to his daughter.
Ain't it funny how you think
You're gonna be OK
Till you remember things ain't never
Gonna be the same again
The same again
Ain't it crazy how you think
You've got your whole life planned
Just to find that it was never ever
In your hand
In your hand
Change
Change, change
Change, change
Declan stood up from the tombstone and wiped the tears from his eyes, took his daughter from his mother and whispered the promise to India he had just made to his wife.
“I promise I’ll keep you safe forever”.
Like you were never gone
If I could hear your voice
You'd tell me to be strong
