I have been watching some old decget sceneage and fanvids for the first time in ages and I found myself filled with an overwhelming feeling of love for Bridget and Declan again. To us Decgetettes, Eloise and James always seemed to have such a natural chemistry on screen that at least some of us began to wonder if there wasn't something more going on between Eloise and James off screen, but I think I may have finally put my finger on why they worked so well and when you think about it, it will seem so simple you will wonder why you didn't realise it before. As the characters of Bridget and Declan began to develop us Decgetettes fell in love with Bridget and Declan. Eloise and James were probably some of the biggest Decgetettes out there. As the characters developed Eloise fell in love with Declan and James fell in love with Bridget (aswell as falling in love with their own characters) and that is why it worked so well, they were so in love with eachothers characters that it felt natural to behave like that around them. Off set they were no more than good friends, on set they were actually in love, the love between them felt real because it was, simple as that.

I'm glad that made you smile, but do you think I'm right?

I think so, considering James cried at the premier of Bridget's death and funeral episodes

I had forgoten about that. I guess living those scenes must have been really hard for them. Lets face it it was hard for us.

Haha yeah I can't even watch them now, nearly 6 years on, without crying!
How crazy that Indi would be starting prep next year!

I watched some clips of Bridget's death the other day and cried my eyes out. I thought I would be ok after 6 years, but I was wrong.
Why couldn't they have all stayed in the show? It would have been wonderful watching Didge and Dec taking Indy for her first day at school. Oh the angst. Such a shame.

I just wish she had have moved to QLD and that Declan would follow her a few months later (as obviously James had an inkling of an idea by then that he would leave the show!) not bring fakelen on and make him in a relationship with her (Kate -.-) don't even like bringing up her name!

This broke my heart a trillion times over, then I went and watched some videos and it melted back together <3 I miss Decget so much and on the very rare occasion I watch Neighbours these days there is not one single couple that is anything close to we had with these two. Another show I watch (which I won't admit to, but um Canadian teen drama) there is a couple that I liken to Decget and vice versa, except no one has any clue who I'm talking about when I talk about Neighbours. The passion and emotions between the two actors is beautifully portrayed onscreen and the actors have brought the characters together wonderfully. In other news, I saw Eloise on the train the other day so she's still out there

I really don't think anyone would have accepted Didge moving away from Declan for any period of time more than a few days with or without India, the nature of their relationship and their family unit simply wouldn't have have made it plausible, and to end the most realistic relationship neighbours has ever seen or is most likely ever to see, in such an implausible way simply wouldn't have worked.

I guess so, but that being said they ended the most famous couple that way didn't they (Scott and Charlene)

If I'm perfectly honest, I don't know much about Scott and Charlene, other than the level of fame they reached.
As much I would have loved Didge to have left before she died so that there was a possibility of the two of them returning, I really do think it would have left people in over 50 countries around the world going "What the Hell! Didge and Dec would never do that!" Susan Bower and some of the writers would probably have ended up in some sort of protection program as Decgetettes from around the world descended on Melbourne with Pitchforks and Torches for completely ruining the end of Decget.
Although how they got away with Kacklen I do not know, we really should have gotten the Pitchforks and Torches out for that as well.

Lol, I hadn't thought of it that way, but between that and recasting Declan I am sure that a lot of people simply switched off. I am always surprised when I discuss my disappointment at the decision to recast Declan and the fact that I stopped watching the show at that point, just how many people say they stopped watching at the same time.

I see it on 'the art of neighbours' Facebook page a lot, people saying that this is when they stopped watching it too! Worst decision they had made in years!
