Thank you so much for all the positive feedback ;D Here's another update, I'm on a role with this now. Enjoy
DeclanDeclan had finally arrived home, he’d gone for a walk to help clear his mind. He walked through the house, only to discover that Rebecca sitting in the kitchen waiting for him, that wasn’t a good sign and he knew exactly what this was going to be about. He tried to make a beeline towards the stairs, but was stopped.
“Don’t walk away, come and talk to me” she said
“What’s to talk about?” he asked, trying to make it seem like there was nothing to talk about.
Rebecca folded her arms and gave him a serious look, he knew that she was worried about him, but he could really do without this right now.
“I had Kate with me in tears after you ran away” she said calmly pausing for a moment before eventually sighing and asking “What’s gotten into you lately?”
“Nothing, look, I just want to go to bed, I’m not feeling well” he said trying to avoid the situation.
Unfortunately for him, Rebecca wasn’t going to let this slide.
“You need to apologise to Kate” she said
“I don’t want to talk to her…”
“Why?” she asked
Declan became agitated and paced for a moment, loosing his cool, before eventually spitting out what the issue was.
“Because I can’t be with her!”
Rebecca looked a little taken back. He stopped pacing and sat down, waiting for her to say something to him. When she didn’t he continued.
“I like Kate, but I don’t love her. I can’t be in a relationship with her, but I don’t want to hurt her…” he said
“Dec, you need to tell her this, you can’t string her along…I thought you two were doing ok”
“I don’t love her though” he replied.
She’s not Bridget…how could I have been so stupid all this time…he thought
“It’s ok, you just need to go slow if that’s what you’re worried about” Rebecca responded.
“No…no, I don’t have any feelings like that for her anymore” Declan replied, looking down at his feet.
“You need to tell her”
“I know, I’m just not sure how to tell her…”
“Just be honest with her and be gentle”
Declan nodded and sighed, he stood up and began to walk away.
“You should go and tell her sooner rather than later” Rebecca said, she stood up and walked over to him. “It’ll be hard, but you need to do it”
He nodded and headed towards the door. She was right, the sooner he sorted this out, the sooner he could concentrate on how he was going to get Bridget back into his life.
Once Declan had left the house and was almost towards Kate’s he felt nervous and like he was going to be sick. He didn’t know how he was going to break this news to her, but he had to do it. He wanted to chase after Bridget again as a single man and without the guilt of cheating.
He knocked at her door and waited for a response, hoping that she would be the only person at home. When Kate answered the door and appeared to be the only person at home he felt a little wave of relief. However, once Kate smiled and looked happy to see him there he felt sick again.
“Can I come in?” he asked.
“Sure, come in” she replied, opening the door wider for him to come inside.
He stepped through the door, the sickness in his stomach growing and growing.
“Kate…” he started, but Kate interrupted beating him to what he wanted to say.
“We need to talk” she said, they where exactly the words he wanted to just say. The mood had completely changed and the smile was gone. Declan felt the sickness rising more and he nodded.
“I was going to say the same thing”
Declan watched as Kate bit her lip and then looked at him. He wished he could feel a little bit of love for her, but he couldn’t. He looked at her and wished that he was not in this situation and was with Bridget.
“Declan…I don’t understand what has happened to us over the past couple of days. Everything was fine and perfect and then…” she stopped, looking upset. “Then, it was like you can’t stand the sight of me”
“It’s not that at all” he started to reply but was interrupted again.
“If that’s not it then why have you been ignoring me and avoiding me?” she snapped
He remained silent, looking down at his shoes. The sickness wasn’t going anywhere and he felt worse and worse as Kate continued to talk to him.
“I like you, Kate…I like you a lot, but I think we need to break up…” Declan finally said, not looking at her or answering her question.
There was a long silence; Kate gave him a shocked look.
“What?” was all she could answer with.
“Kate, this isn’t going to work…I’m sorry”
It was then that the crying started from Kate. Declan wished he could feel a little more emotional about what was happening, but he couldn’t. He didn’t feel anything and for that he felt like an asshole.
“….why?” Kate stuttered
He wasn’t sure how to answer that, he could be honest with her and risk trying to start over with Bridget or he could lie. He chose to lie, it was too risky to be honest and he wasn’t completely covering up his reasons.
“This relationship has moved to fast, I just don’t think I can be the one for you, I can’t say that I love you back” he replied “You’re a beautiful, wonderful person, but I can’t see us being anything more but friends now”
Kate was looking at him through teary eyes which looked like they were begging him not to say these things.
“W-we could take things slower, it doesn’t matter that you can’t say that you love me yet…I can wait, but please don’t do this” Kate pleaded
Declan shook his head and replied in a firm but gentle voice.
“I can’t, Kate, I’m sorry but it’s over”
He couldn’t meet her eyes, he didn’t want to look at her in case his changed his mind about doing this. He liked Kate a lot, just not like what he felt with Bridget and he knew right from the outset that they had been a mistake and a rebound. He felt horrible that he’d dumped her, but relieved at the same time, he was single and able to try and win Bridget back without feeling like he was cheating.
“I’m sorry….I better go” he said, turning to head towards the door. As he began to walk away Kate began to cry a little louder and fought back at this situation.
“I’ve given everything to you!” she practically yelled, tears streaming down her face “I told you I loved you and I slept with you…I would do anything for you.”
Declan didn’t turn around and he remained silent. Once she trailed off he reached for the door handle and she continued. She obviously had expected a reply and he hadn’t given her one.
“Fine then, hurry up and go! Just keep away from me!”
With that he opened the door and hurried out of the house and down the driveway. He didn't want to hear Kate crying anymore, he wanted to get away. He felt like the worlds biggest asshole and all he could think about was thinking of a plan to win back Bridget. This made him feel bad in itself, but Bridget was his main priority now. He had to do this for her and India. He kept a quick pace until he got home.
